Pesquisa e Inteligência de Marketing Feminino
May 31 is World No Tobacco Day, and the World Health Organization chose women as its theme. This is because, since they earned more independence, women have become the focus of the tobacco industry, which used the cigarette as a symbol of women’s emancipation. The Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) estimates that tobacco use is responsible for 40% of death in women under 65 and 10% of deaths related to coronary disease in women from the same age group. Once they gave up smoking, the risk for heart disease begins to drop. The campaign alerts woman about smoker husbands, since those who live with such men run a 30% higher risk of developing lung cancer.
In the survey “Caring for Your Body” undertaken by Sophia Mind, 69% of the 631 women interviewed stated that not smoking was one of the ways used to prevent disease. This was the highest percentage when compared to periodic doctor’s visits, avoiding alcoholic beverages and practicing safe sex. This shows that there is already a good portion of the female population that is aware of cigarettes’ effects.
