According to a report published by Everis on e-commerce, Brazil leads the ranking of Latin American countries on online sales. The country has seen a growth of 8.9% over last year’s sales, and of 238,8% since 2005.

Teodoro Lopez, president of Everis Brasil, states that despite the international financial crisis of 2009, online sales kept on growing, especially among the countries that form BRICIT, which recorded a growth of 15.8%, and Latin American countries, with a growth of 10%.

The survey also showed that Brazil is following the worldwide trend of growth in the consumption of online products and services. The study on Virtual Goods, carried out by Sophia Mind, shows that 18% of Brazilian women already consume online products and that Facebook (29%) and the iPhone with its apps (18%) are the venues through which most purchases are made.

In another research also carried out by Sophia Mind on the Influence the Internet has over women’s purchase decisions, half of the women interviewed had already made purchases online, the main products purchased were books and magazines (20%), electronics and computer related products (18%), and CDs and DVDs (11%).

In the study, women stated that they have issues with the security and privacy of their personal data, trust over product delivery, and the guarantee that they will receive a quality product. These constitute factors which may prove to be a challenge for companies who look for business opportunities with online sales.
